Tips for Booking the Best Hotels in Bali

When to Book Luxury Accommodation in Bali

Bali’s peak tourist season is between May and September when the weather is drier and mild. December-January is also very popular as many Aussies visit Bali during their summer vacation. I recommend booking your accommodation at least 3-4 months in advance during this time.

How to Find Amazing Places to Stay in Bali

In this guide, we’ve listed some of the most beautiful places to stay in Bali, based on our extensive research and experience, plus a few suggestions from our travel blogging friends who have stayed in these Bali 5 star hotels!

These suggestions cover hotels and resorts in all the major tourist areas that are close to some of the best things to do in Bali. We’ve also included information about the style of accommodation, a general price guide and expert tips from people who have actually stayed there. Basically, we’ve done all the research for you!

How to Get the Best Price on Bali 5 Star Hotels

In order to get the best price on hotels in Bali (or anywhere in the world really), I recommend booking through Booking.com or Hotels.com. The reason I use these two booking providers is that they offer the best rates and a Price Match Guarantee. By signing up as a member, you’ll get access to special discounts, member-only deals, and sale alerts. Hotels.com also offers free nights after you’ve completed 10 stays!

I also find many of the hotels listed on Booking.com and Hotels.com offer free cancellation, in case something goes wrong. And sometimes they offer a pay at the hotel option if you prefer to pay in local currency.

Before I book my hotels, I usually compare prices on HotelsCombined.com to ensure I’m getting the best deal, but I generally don’t book through them. I recommend booking either through Booking.com or Hotels.com for the reasons stated above. Their Price Match Guarantee ensures you always get the best price anyway, as well as taking advantage of member benefits.

Where to stay in Bali? Bisma Eight hotel is one of the best hotels in Bali offering an incredible eco-luxe, minimalist, boutique hotel experience. Set in the lush Balinese jungle, on the outskirts of Ubud, this is one of our top places to stay in Bali.

Best Beach Resorts in Bali

LUXE Pick: St. Regis Bali Resort

Recommended by Stefan from The Nomadic Boys

The St. Regis Bali Resort is one of the best honeymoon resorts in Bali. It is located at the southern tip of the island in Nusa Dua, which is nicknamed “the honeymoon area” due to the abundance of exceptional 5 star Bali resorts.

You’ll be blown away from the moment you set foot in the St Regis. It is the epitome of opulence, with dramatic chandeliers, intricate rugs and marble everywhere. It’s also huge, with its own private beach area. The highlight is the 3,668 square metre salt-water lagoon pool! And before you’ve had the chance to take it all in, along comes your own private Butler to take you to your room. That’s right, a private Butler, who is on call 24/7 to meet your every request.

The service is truly on point at the St Regis – you’re made to feel like royalty staying here! It’s one of the best Bali resorts for couples and honeymooners, plus it is also a very gay friendly hotel and welcomes all LGBTQ travellers.

Beyond chilling and relaxing in this lavish resort, there are some impressive cliffs to explore nearby and a blowhole known as “Water Blow” where you can watch the famous splash through the rocks. Whether you’re an LGBTQ traveller or not, the vibrant gay nightlife of Bali is well worth checking out. Simply hop into a taxi and head north to Seminyak, which is just 9 miles (15km) away.

Best Resorts in Bali with Private Pool Villa

LUXE Pick: Tanah Gajah

Recommended by Kristen & Ben from Adventures with Ensuite

Tanah Gajah is ideally a 10-minute drive from Ubud. Ubud is known as the cultural centre of Bali and offers many great tourist attractions including temples, shrines, rice terraces, and traditional markets. It is also one of the best resorts in Bali with private pool villas!

The hotel has 20 villas spread over a 5-hectare estate with tennis courts, gym, yoga centre, spa and a gorgeous 35-metre-long pool. Each villa has a private butler to help you with anything you might need during your stay.

Surrounded by vibrant green rice fields this is a truly relaxing hotel at which to stay and has stunning views whichever direction you look. The restaurant is partially open-air making it feel like you are dining amongst the rice paddies. Breakfast is cooked to order with both Indonesian and Western dishes available. When staying overnight, afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks are included in the room rate.

Best Luxury Bali Jungle Hotels

LUXE Pick: HOSHINOYA Bali

Recommended by Allan from Live Less Ordinary

HOSHINOYA Bali resort is a Balinese resort inspired by the perfection of Japanese design. Located in the creative craft capital of Gianyar regency over the valleys of the Pakerisan River (a UNESCO Heritage Site), this luxury resort is like a mini Waterworld, where each luxury villa has their own private pool area that also connects to wider canals and waterways linked throughout the resort.

For many, the main feature of HOSHINOYA is the Air Gazebos which are perched high in the canopy of the Balinese jungle and surrounded by the siren of birds, lizards, and jungle beasts. An experience that cannot be explained through images. Hotel guests can use these gazebos at any time of the day, for breakfast, for midday naps, or cocktails with sunset. It is about as close to nature as you can get.

HOSHINOYA is a Japanese brand known for its prestige and simplicity in design, which is reflected throughout, including the restaurant menus which feature a choice of Balinese, Indonesian, Japanese, or a combination of all cuisines. HOSHINOYA Bali is a completely unique luxury pool villa experience.

Best Luxury Resorts in Bali

LUXE Pick: Amankila

Recommended by Michelle from Live Like it’s the Weekend

Amankila is hands down one of the most beautiful hotels in Bali. Located in the Karangasem region of Eastern Bali, it’s situated in a lesser developed area of the island, which makes it super tranquil and perfect for a relaxing escape away from the crowds of Canggu and Seminyak.

While the room design was exquisite, with Balinese influences throughout each modern space, it has triple tiered pools inspired by the island’s iconic rice terraces that will make your jaw drop. Not to mention, said pool looks out over the ocean to the East, so if you’re a sunrise kind of traveler, plan to set your alarm clock early to witness the most epic Balinese sunrises.

Amankila is truly one of those places you’ll want to camp up in and never leave, with the loveliest staff that makes you feel at home.

Just make sure when packing for Bali, that you bring a few nicer dresses for dining in the resort’s indoor/outdoor restaurant where you’re guaranteed to want to make reservations for a few multi-course meals. You’ll go to bed happy and stuffed each night, ready to rinse and repeat for the next day ahead of sun and pure relaxation.

  • Location: East Bali

Bali Hotels with the Best View

LUXE Pick: Alila Ubud

Recommended by Michelle from Live Like it’s the Weekend

If you’re looking for girls trip ideas, visiting Bali’s spiritual center of Ubud is the perfect place to take in the island’s culture, food, natural scenery and iconic hotels with your gal pals.

While it may seem like a romantic couple’s escape at first glance, after all, it is one of the best Bali honeymoon resorts, Alila Ubud is also perfect for a luxury girls’ getaway.

Alila Ubud is a hotel brand that is committed to sustainability and supporting locals. You’re sure to enjoy every detail, from the delicious cocktails and lush jungle foliage at every turn, to the iconic infinity pool that juts out into the jungle.

The pool is so epic that it was voted by Travel & Leisure as one of the top 50 most beautiful hotel pools in the world. If you can break yourself away from your lounge chair for a day, you’ll be in great proximity to explore downtown Ubud, take a yoga class, check out the rice terraces or even do a day trip up to North Bali to go trekking through waterfalls.

The hotel offers a free shuttle service in between town, making it extra convenient to venture out. Each time you return back to the Alila Ubud though, you’ll be greeted by the staff with the phrase, “Welcome Home”!

Best Places to Stay in Bali For Couples

LUXE Pick: Ramayana Suites and Resorts

Recommended by Meenakshi of Polka Junction

Ramayana Suites and Resorts, located in the bustling Kuta area of Bali, is a perfect property to kickstart your Bali itinerary. It offers well-appointed rooms catering to various price-ranges, a swimming pool, and spa apart from in-house restaurants.

The advantage of opting this property would be the buzzing Kuta neighbourhood. From thrift shops to shopping malls and street-food to fine-dining, the area around the Ramayana resorts has it all. Just a few minutes away from the property is the Kuta beach, which offers various water sports and adventure activities.

While, staying here, indulge in a varied mix of traditional Indonesian cuisine at the in-house Gabah restaurant. The vegetarian Sayur Membrata (steamed rice in a yellow coconut shell with skewers, crispy fried bean cake, and fritters) made using the freshest produce from the local markets comes highly recommended.
